1845 Jacob Miller was born.

Jacob W. Miller It is assumed for research purposes that Jacob W. Miller is the father of Johanna (Miller) Bryant.

1878 Thirty-three year old Jacob Miller passed February 21, 1878.1 He is buried in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery (PVC). He has the third oldest dated tombstone in the PVC: W. A. Gibston, 1869 and Robert Trimble, 1870.

In 1880 Charles Bryant was a farmer. Johanna Bryant and Alonzo Bryant were married November 1 1879 in Josephine County, Oregon (Vol. 2, p. 289). Her maiden name was Miller.2

Alonzo Bryant was a farmer.

1882 Jacob W. Miller’s Hugo Cash Entry In 1882 Jacob Miller was issued a cash entry patent for 80 acres in Hugo, Oregon (Patent No. 4556).3-4

1882 Harrison B. Ketterman and Viola F. Skeeters married December 13, 1882. His step father was Hinton Miller. His mother was Joanna Miller.5

1885 Joanna Bryant’s Hugo Homestead In 1885 Joanna Bryant (Johanna Miller) was issued a homestead patent for 160 acres in Hugo, Oregon (Patent No. 1737).3-4

J. Bryant Map identifies J. Bryant as owner of 160 acres, but a different 160 acres than homestead.6

Jas. Bryant Map identifies Jas. Bryant as owner of 80 acres, the south ½ of old homestead.

The eastern portion of the old Miller cash entry was undeveloped in 2007 (east of Monument Drive and west of the PVC). It contains crucial geographic features applicable to the Applegate Trail: macadam road, ford crossing, and bridge crossing.7

Cash Entry

1914 Renshaw Homestead On September 2, 1914 Theodore Milton Renshaw was issued a 40 acre homestead patent in Hugo, Oregon adjacent to the Miller’ land (Patent No. 06672).1-3 Theodore had a daughter, Maude H. Miller, that was single in 1900, and whose name was Maude Renshaw and living with her father and mother in 1910.

1930 Isabell Catherine Miller passed January 18, 1930 in Josephine County, Oregon.8
