VII. SIGNATURES
The following persons and organizations author this
preliminary assessment. The ultimate goal of this assessment is to provide a preliminary
body of information to support Federal, State, and local efforts to manage the historic Applegate
Trail with a sense of stewardship predicated upon the recognition of the importance of
the trail to our history.
The purpose of this preliminary assessment was to
determine if the Applegate Trail qualified for the National Register of Historic
Places. The signers believe it does. However, they do not view their determinations to
represent the end, but the beginning of a process to evaluate the trail’s potential.
Of significance are the recommended conditions of approval to protect and enhance the Applegate
Trail.
The information in this assessment can have a variety of
uses, including public education; planning by local, State, or Federal agencies; or
publication.
