- One of the ways the Hugo Neighborhood Association
& Historical Society aims to best promote the social welfare of its Hugo neighbors is
by collecting, preserving, interpreting, and researching its rich local history, and
encouraging neighbor’s interest in the history of the Hugo area, in their geographic
place, in their community.

- The Hugo Neighborhood’s history is about
the past and present as history is being lived everyday. This web page is for Hugoites to
share their stories. Those that live here now, had lived here in the past, or would like
to have lived here. There are no boundaries to the text of their stories, only what life
has dealt or what their imagination can conjure up. There are standards developed by the
Hugo Storytelling Committee on the "tone" of story submissions.

- We believe the quality of rural life in Hugo is
enhanced through citizen knowledge of its history, including its living participants, and
the sense of community that a historical perspective facilitates. In the end,
Hugoites’ individual stories will tell the community story of cultural growth and
cultural impact. Children will see its impact on their learning. Families will see the
effect of culture through their local participation and use of resources. Community
development will see its impact economically and through greater social involvement and
especially pride.

Individual Tales

- All stories will be web published in a pdf format. All
stories’ computer file names will be preceded with a preface of "HSP" which
stands for Hugo Storyteller Program.

- Additional stories as they are added will be
chronologically by year.
