NEWMAN, WILLIAM William "Pappy" Newman was a stage whip or driver who carried passengers and mail 3 times a week from the Wolf Creek post office to the Greenback Mine and Placer via Golden in the early 1900's. When the mining activities in the Tom East/Coyote Creek area declined, the stage route ended and Pappy carried the mail by horse and buggy.
