GANIARD, OSCAR

"In 1852 he crossed the plains to Oregon and became a wealthy and prominent citizen of Jackson county, as well as being largely interested in the real estate of Josephine county, owning near Althouse the Enterprise ranch, and also engaging in a mercantile business.  In 1872 he removed to Jackson county and engaged in farming and merchandising in Sams valley, twelve years later becoming a resident of Ashland, which continued to be his home until his death, July 13, 1895.  He was a broadminded, liberal, enterprising citizen, sparing no effort to promote the general welfare, and to uplift the standard of excellence in whatever line of business he attempted."
